The story

Cut from a pair of black jeans and set across the body until it sat right, then fixed with a single ring. The back panel was built from the leftover denim; every strip of fringe was torn by hand and left exactly where it fell. The feathers were collected one at a time — a red hawk, two owl, a blue jay, and two nobody could name — and bound on with waxed thread beside tassels spun from the denim's own scraps.
